Yes, we are trying to grow readers.
Grandmama came for a visit and enjoyed reading a bedtime story to Smudge.
Amma was asked for a mid afternoon story...
And of course Buppa is always called on for stories each time we visit. Now Jboy is getting into the act too.
How neat!

Absolutely one of the grandest things in the world to do. Nothing is more comforting to grands and to us than to set with them nestled up close and taking in every word.
QMM
QMMM - I so agree!
If I had a pound for every time I'd read through that Big Word Book to my kids, making up stories to fit the pictures, I'd be rich. Those were the days!
Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't---my two girls are prodigious readers, and two of my granddaughters are the same, but my son never took to it--not even after my having spent prodigious amunts of money buying him books which he used to make mountains he could drive his trucks over. And guess what, he's a truck driver, so we had some influence, I guess.
I don't yhink there is anythng better than reading to a child....Hugs
Jinksy - This is the same Big Word Book I read to our kids too. It is all taped up but Smudge loves it. Ah, all the sweet memories that come tumbling out each time I open this dog-eared old book.
Lorna - I know. D#1 loved being read to and then loved to read as a kid. D#2 enjoyed being read to, but wasn't a reader at first. In grade school we couldn't keep D#1's nose out of her books, but we had to tape a $5 bill to the back of D#2's books to get her to read them.
When she was a baby all her older sister's board books were in perfect shape when she inherited them. Not so when she was finished with them though. She was more interested in pulling the covers apart to see how they were made rather than reading what was written between said covers. I don't think she fell in love with books until she hit University, and now she is a reader. We all progress at our own speed don't we?
Maybe your son will become a reading truck driver yet!
Bernie - Me too. I love it!
