The next morning

JJ slept the night through like a champ, and the next morning, we were up before he was.  Once he was awake, he wanted to stay in bed and play some games on his DS.
That was just fine with me.  I enjoyed a quiet cup of coffee while he played happily in the guest room.  I kept checking on him, but he said he would let me know when he wanted breakfast, so I let him be.

When I walked by the room about half hour later, I saw him sitting on the floor starkers!  When I asked him what he was doing, he informed me that he was getting dressed.  I asked him if he needed any help, but the answer was no.  He was four years old now, and he could do it himself...and he did!
He had a bit of trouble with his socks, but he figured them out, and managed just fine.
Once dressed, he hunted up his dart gun and darts...
...and went to hunt down the bad guys.

JJ's sleepover

Mommy and Daddy had a dinner party on the weekend, so JJ came to our house for a sleepover on Saturday night.  He spends a lot of time at our house, and he had a sleepover here with his sister last year, but this was his first sleepover all by himself

I think he started packing his suitcase mid-week, and was very excited about the big event, but we were not sure how he would react to being here all night, when it came to the actual event.  I am happy to say that he was a sleepover champ, and it was a huge success.

He arrived late afternoon, and once all his stuff was unpacked, we set off for a trip to Home Depot, (his favorite store, where he sat on ALL the tractors...twice...then steered the shopping cart happily around the whole store).  Then we made a stop at the $Store to get a sleepover treat.

He choose a dart gun for himself, and a colouring kit for his sister.
After dinner he watched Toy Story, then headed upstairs for story time with Buppa.  All the while chattering on and on about sleeping in the big bed.
He choose his own pillow case, and was quite please to sleep with some Sesame Street Characters.
Just before lights out, I took one more picture of him all snuggled down in the big bed with his Care Bear stuffy.  We put a couple of toys in the corner of the bed for him to play with if he woke up real early in the morning.

He was asleep in about 10 minutes and slept soundly all night.  What a champ!  When he woke up about 7:30, he stayed in bed and played with his toys for at least another hour.  Way to go JJ.  Come back again soon.

Crazy Hair Day

It was crazy hair day for Danica at school last week, so I had some creative work to do before she ran out the door to catch the bus.
We started out with pipe cleaners, elastics and plastic clips.  I parted her hair in many small parts, added a wire pipe cleaner, attached it with a clip,  then braided her hair around the pipe cleaner.  Once braided in, we could bend the hair is all sorts of funny shapes.
Crazy hair indeed.
From any angle, it was wild
Once her hair was done, she worked on some crafts at the kitchen table until it was time to catch the bus.
This girl like to be busy.

Mary Poppins

Once the dancing fun was done, it was time to watch Mary Poppins.
Danica started out with me..
...while JJ stretched out on the couch
Then we all got together on the couch

Gangnam Style by the Munchkins

The after dinner show consisted of a dance demonstration by both kidlets.

I think they have the Gangnam style down pat!

Busy creating

Ssshhhh!  Budding artist at work.  The family came over for a Valentine's dinner last week, so the kids helped set the table and make place cards for each of us.
As you can see, each place had two place cards...one from each munchkin.
After the table was all set, Danica stayed to work on her colouring, while JJ went to play with his Power Rangers
She has taken great care with this picture to make sure it is just the way she wants it.

Morning games

Most mornings when the kids are here waiting for the school bus we have story time.  Some days that just won't do though, as too much energy is swirling through the air, and activity is required.
On this particular morning, Buppa and the munchkins were playing the hand tower game.  JJ is about to add his hand to the top of the tower, and if Danica's hand is on the bottom of the pile, she will add it to the top.
Lots of concentration is required, and hilarity follows the many mistakes made.
Dani takes time out to look at the camera, but soon returns all her attention to the game.

Jump for Joy

We were jumping for joy to be gifted with a mild day, so ice would melt, and we could get out for a walk.   What a treat to walk on bare concrete...yahoo!
JJ ran and splashed in every fabulously splashy puddle he could find.
He literally did jump for joy

On most walks he lags far behind checking out every leaf, stone and twig.  Not on this day though, he ran ahead of us for the whole walk, splashing in puddles with great enthusiasm.
Lots of times we had to call him to run back to us so he didn't get too far ahead.  He didn't mind giving each puddle a second thumping.
We met neighbours out for a puddle walk to, and each one was greeted happily.

Imagination

JJ got lots of Super Hero/Power Ranger action figures for his birthday.  He brought a huge bag of new stuff over to our house at the beginning of the week.  So I was surprised to see what was keeping him so busy the other morning while I was puttering around the house.  When I saw what he was playing with I ran for my camera.
Yes, you are seeing correctly.  He is playing with plastic cutlery.
I think the forks were the bad guys.

Breather

We actually had some sunshine and fresh snow on the weekend so we went for a walk in the park.
It was a glorious day, and the footing wasn't icy, so we had a safe trek through the woods.
What is AC taking a picture of here?
Someone hung a bag a suet in a tree near the water, and the Chickadees were quite excited about that.  They posed for lots of pictures, and then followed us all the way along on our walk.  Next time we will bring a treat for them and maybe get a picture or two of them eating out of our hands like they did at Riverwood.

JJ's BD Party - Phase 3

Because the bowling party was held on the weekend before JJ's actual birthday, we had a small family celebration on the actual day.
The celebrations started off with a trip to Tim's for lunch.  Buppa and JJ do love lunch at Tim's
Then it was off to the $$Store for a treat.  JJ chose this pirate set.
At dinner time, we all went to the kid's place for JJ's favorite meal - chicken strips and fries.
Of course we had cake and ice cream too.
We still had half a Batman cake to dig into.
After dinner JJ opened gifts from the family.
Everything old is new again.  Yes, Care Bears are making a come back, and JJ loves them.
We gave him Harmony Care Bear, and these additions to his train set.  These cars are hand made by our neighbour, and a work of art. They are fun to play with now, but will be a treasure to keep for years to come.
Super heroes are high on JJ's list these days, but he does love his Care Bear.
After all the festivities it was time to get ready for bed.  Buppa read the kids a story or two.  Danica got to choose one, then it was JJ's turn to pick a book.
While Buppa was reading the bedtime story, Mommy and Daddy were busy putting JJ's gift from them together.
It was a Spiderman tent that goes over JJ's bed.  Care Bears and Spiderman, what could be better?

JJ's BD Party - Phase 2

After the fun at the bowling lanes, we all went back to the kid's place for hot dogs, birthday cake and presents.
JJ was very pleased with his Batman Cake.
After we all munched on hotdogs, we enjoyed cake and ice cream
Then it was time to open presents.  JJ is quite enthralled with Star Wars these days, so this light sabre was a big hit.
I think he liked the shirt and toy from Grandmama too.
Buppa and Asha relax and watch the gift opening from a quiet corner.
After the gifts are open, Danica and Bea work on a craft
Birthday hugs were shared all around.
