After the Heron

After we spotted the Heron, and stopped to take some pics, we continued on our drive to the walking path through the woods.  This is a delightful path that winds through the woods, along the river's edge, out into open fields, back into the woods, and along a wooden walkway through a swampy area.

There are lots of things to see along this path, and we have our cameras at the ready.
Sometimes AC wanders off the path to take pictures, but I stay away from these buggy areas.
Soon AC is back on the path again and we are on our way.
I find I can get a lot of fab pics even when I stay on the path.  This is a fav taken of the water on the ground in the swampy area.

Neat huh?
Hmm, am I looking up or down?

Just lucky

We were driving through our neighbourhood the other day when AC pulled quickly over to the curb near the park.  I didn't know what was happening at first, but soon noticed what he had seen from the road...a Heron, and it was actually in a nice setting.

AC grabbed his camera and got out of the car to snap some pics.  I stayed in the car, rolled down the window, and snapped a few with my little-nothing-fancy camera.    I quite like the results even if they don't compare to AC's.

Lambs Down - Part 3

What is a carnival without a chance to get your face painted?  I think this was the highlight of the day for the kids.  There were two booths set up for the big event.  One cost $3 and the other $10.  There was a huge line-up at the $3 booth, and both kids were promised a face-painting so mom and dad lined up at the booth.  Buppa and I wandered down the line of concessions and noticed another booth with no line-up, but the full face deal cost $10.  Hmmmm...what to do?   We sent mom down to take a look and decided that the $10 face painting was worth the extra $$$ seeing as it was very hot, and there was no line at the second booth.
By the time we got there though, we were 3rd in line.  Sigh!  This lady was talented though, and worth waiting for.
JJ wanted to be Batman...
...and scared the bad guys away with this ferocious look,.
Danica wanted to be a tiger, and sat quietly while the artist created a special tiger look for her.
JJ sat forlornly waiting for sister to be done.
All done and ready to growl for the camera.
Fierce pair huh?  I love the curved fingers on the tiger, and the battle ready Batman.
If I was a bad guy, I would sure run from these two.

Lambs Down - Part 2

After the up-close-and-personal encounter with the pony,  Danica and JJ thought it would be fun to watch a lamb get a haircut. They kept pretty close to daddy though.

This sheep was a very obedient girl, and sat up pretty for her new Do.

I sure am glad my hairdresser has a better technique than this.  He tells me to sit up straight, but never puts me through these moves.  The lamb looks worried doesn't she?  She might be thinking...I sure hope the farmer didn't have beans for supper last night!
Sure looks awkward, but the sheep hardly ever complained.
Well, once in a while she let out a bleep, but all in all was a very compliant customer.
All done and getting her jewellery put back on.

Lambs Down - Part 1

After a family breakfast on Father's Day, we all went to the carnival at Lambs Down.  Danica made friends with the first animal we saw...
and wanted to pet it, but it was too busy eating to pay her much attention.
JJ wan't sure if he wanted to get too close, so retreated to daddy's arms for a safe vantage point from which to view the horse.
Next was the goat pen, and the kids could feed the goats, but neither wanted to get their hands too close for a nibble of a finger by a friendly goat.
Pony rides were on tap too, and of course both munchkins went for a ride.
I don't think Danica was too impressed with the ride at first.
But she soon warmed up to it...Giddy-up!

Father's Day Breakfast

We celebrated FD last Saturday instead of Sunday. That way, daddies could sleep in on FD and have a totally relaxing day.  And besides, the weather was much nicer on Saturday, so we could go out and have some family fun after breakfast.

Lots and hugs and smiles were on the menu.

The Best of the best of heros

This is the first Monday morning without JJ, and we will miss the little munchkin, even if we are more than ready for a break from this babysitting gig.

This is a picture I have left over from last week.  We just never knew what outfit JJ would arrive in in the morning.  One day he would be Spiderman, the next a Power Ranger, then he would come as the best super hero of all...a Fireman.
We will miss those early morning visits, and the sunshine he brought with him each day.  You are a very cute superhero JJ.

More fun on our last picnic with JJ this week

The play equipment was lots of fun, but it is right beside the water...
and the water was calling JJ's name.  What's a boy to do when this happens?  He just has to go check things out.
The water was really shallow here, and this concrete barrier gave JJ the perfect spot to dabble his hands in the water, without getting the rest of him wet on this cool windy day.
He did manage to get himself wet enough that we had to take him home for a complete change of clothes though.
I kept thinking that he was going to take a nose-dive in and get drenched, but he managed  to stay on top of the barrier.
He was happy, and had a grand time finding all sorts of treasures in the water.

Last Week of Babysitting JJ

Well, we finished up our full-time daycare gig with JJ this week.  Yes, he is going to school full-time in  September, and we are taking a short break before Amma and Buppa's Summer Camp begins, so this was our last week with just JJ during the day.  Bittersweet week I must say.
The sun was shining on Tuesday, so we packed up picnic gear and set off for the local park.  JJ set up his chair close to the water and munched his sandwich and chips with great delight,

After lunch he went fishing with his net, and caught a crab.  He had to bring it over for me to take a closer look

He put the crab back in the water, and went in search of other treasures.

Wow, a feather!

It was too cold to go in the water, but great fun was had on the equipment on the beach.

What a great spot for kids and adults.

JJ still needs help with these bars, and Buppa was happy to oblige.

That's better.  Easier on Buppa anyway.
